Our Youth Healthy Decisions Program recently had a visitor from Stoney Mountain Penitentiary to talk to the youth on different issues such as, gangs, drug and alcohol abuse, destructive cycles in life, different obstacles such as loss of identity, lack of family support and peer pressure and how to overcome these struggles. This presentation ultimately gave the youth the opportunity to hear someone’s actual experiences, to relate to those difficulties that everyone faces, but also see the importance in changing the destructive path that one is on.
Onashowewin takes pride in the services we provide, importantly where we offer our services, our office. We have just finished creating a cultural room within our office space, newly painted and decorated room to have smudging ceremonies and sharing circles. It only adds to the welcoming and comforting feeling when visiting Onashowewin.
We welcome anyone and everyone to stop by our office to get resources and information on employment search, volunteer experience, Restorative Justice, family support systems; youth outreach programs, mediation and conflict resolution, sharing/healing circles and cultural support.
